FAQ |
1) Why do blind people need Thunder Software?
Most of us are not able to pay for the commercial screenreaders and so Thunder is free and available to everyone. The talking computer is life-changing, giving back your literacy to make your voice heard in mainstream society
2) Is the Thunder software difficult to learn?
No. Very easy for someone with a basic knowledge of the Windows system who is prepared to learn 20 or 30 keyboard shortcuts. Visually impaired users will make greater progress if they allocate time to touch typing
3) Do many people use Thunder?
We know over 250,000 have downloaded the software but we don’t know how many use it every day.
4) We would like a better sounding voice for the thunder software. Is this possible?
Yes there are commercial voices costing between 20 and 150 Euros which are good with Thunder talking software. But these commercial voices are not free of charge. Such voices must be SAPI5 compliant. Your tutor may be able to help you find the voice you want by searching the web.
5) I am blind and would like to help other people use the talking computer. Can I do this?
Yes of course. Good blind people help each other. Talk to your tutor first or an officer or staff member in your local blind association.
6) I love music. Will Thunder software work with programs such as QBase?
Thunder works well like other screenreaders with many Windows programs but we can’t write up such detail in this project. QBase will not work well but we do suggest that, if you want such a program to work for you, that you contact ask@screenreader.net if your tutor is not able to help you.
